So, the other day I was switching channels, and I just noticed the one crucial thing. All of a sudden, the protagonists of all prime time shows irrespective of the channels have been sporting a 'beard.' I was impressed because gone are the days when the beard was just a symbol associated with heartbreaks. Beards are finally acting cupids for our young guns on TV.
Starting from these two show that air on Star Plus
Ishqbaaaz- Star Plus
Nakuul Mehta, Kunal Jaisingh, and Leenesh Mattoo respectively portray Shivaay, Omkara, and Rudra, the three heirs of the Oberoi family. All three are described as young, vibrant, single-ready-to-mingle men with 'beard.' How I appreciate these changes on screen no more stereotyping of the man's mane. While Shivaay and Omkara sport a full beard, Rudra is shown having a short stubble. This show deserves a pat for the right styling. While Shivaay usually dresses in Suits, Omkara is the artistic one and is dressed in casuals. While Rudra, represents the young, carefree, fun-loving guy and hence he gets to wear funky shirts and tees. Three cheers to the styling department there.
Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil- Star Plus
While seldom do we see clean-shaven characters with negative streaks. Oops! This post is not supposed to be about stereotypes, but I keep on stepping onto them. Because we are constantly surrounded by them. It is good to see the main lead Raghav sporting an extended goatee and being the epitome of goodness. But in a recent episode, there did appear a terrorist sporting a beard. Ouch!
For starters, we will just ignore a few loopholes and praise the rights. What say?
Shaurya Khanna from Zindagi Ki Mehak- Zee Tv
A haughty, rich restaurateur Shaurya Khanna just hates middle-class behaviour. However, we love his almost full beard look, which he pulls off with the classic suits. One thing common between beards and suits, they never go out of style!
Abhi from Kumkum Bhagya: Zee Tv
Shabbir Ahluwalia who plays the role of Abhi, a rock star, carries stubble beard style for the television series Kumkum Bhagya. However, initially Shabbir has been shifting between Extended Goatee style and Short Stubble. Both go well with his 'rockstar' look. He usually experiments with his looks; I particularly like his choice of leather jackets.
