ardwork. You have it, you flaunt it. Did you know your beard or moustache can also compete with beards world over?
Though, there is no well-documented history of the sport of international bearding, people believe that modern competitive bearding event began with a 1990 event organized and hosted by the First Höfener Beard Club in its hometown Höfen, Germany, a small village in the Black Forest.
The event takes place every few years at different locations worldwide. Last year, more than 300 contestants in teams from across the globe gathered in Leogang, Austria, to compete in three groups: moustache, partial beard, and a full beard.
National Beard and Moustache Championship
America’s Just for Men National Beard and Moustache Championships is another one of its kind Beard & Moustache competition, second only to the World Beard and Moustache Championships. The first ever Beard Team USA National Beard and Moustache Championship was held in Bend, Oregon on June 5, 2010. Over 200 beardsmen competed in front of a screaming crowd and media in an over-the-top celebration of facial hair.
Since then, its organized every year with 2015 competition taking place in Brooklyn.
Annual Pushkar Camel Fair, Rajasthan
Back home, we have our very own Pushkar Fair that hosts its unbelievable annual longest moustache competition. During the tournament, men compete to see who has the greatest facial hair. Moustaches are often meters long and require curling against the face.
The extravaganza celebrates “moonch and daadhi” in the desi style with facial hair coming in all sizes and shades.
So, there are more brothers round the world and these competetions bring all of us together.
